Advance

This whistle call is blown when the entire line is to advance together.  It is a series of four notes, blown twice.  The call is then repeated again after a pause, followed by two notes.  The last two notes are the executive, which is the signal for the line to move forward.

Retreat

This whistle call is blown when the entire line is to retreat together.  It is a series of three notes, blown three.  The call is then repeated again after a pause, followed by two notes.  The last two notes are the executive, which is the signal for the line to retire.

Halt

Whenever the line is moving as one, the entire line is to halt, face the enemy, and kneel.  When the line is moving by pairs, the moving solider is to reform with his file partner.

Commence Firing

The files are to commence independent fire by pairs.

Cease Firing

Everyone to cease fire, prime and load, and prepare to move.

 
 
When the line is to advance rank through rank, the advance will be blown, followed by the commence fire, and then the executive. 
 
When the line is to retire rank through rank, the retreat will be blown, followed by the commence fire, and then the executive.
