Trotter Pack

The Trotter Pack was where the soldier carried all his extra necessaries. Any extra shirts, shoes or ammunition would be carried in his pack, along with his brushes, pipeclay, blackball and everything else necessary to keep his kit in order. The Trotter Pack (named for its producer) was a black canvas pack with white leather straps. Contrary to popular opinion, this pack did not contain wooden inserts, but the stories of "pack palsy" and constricted breathing are true nonetheless. Rolled ontop of the Pack is the soldier's greatcoat. Strapped to his rolled greatcoat the Sergeant would have carried his personal messtin.
